What is the purpose of rolling out slot machines?
There are many different reasons why we plan to roll out slot machines such as:
- To diversify and expand the existing gambling activities and provide additional alternative forms of leisure and entertainment in the Province.
- To expand the slot machine market and thereby create opportunities for the direct participation of small and medium sized enterprises.
- to provide much needed job opportunities in the Province, in particular in, previously disadvantaged areas.
Are there different types of licenses for slot machine
Yes, there are 3 different types of licenses that you can apply for. Although the requirements remain the same, the biggest difference between the licenses are the number of slot machines you can apply for:
- Type A License – 5 Machines
- Type B License – 30 machines
- Type C License – 40 machines
What are the requirements to apply for a slot machine license?
The most important requirements are:
- Compliancy with CIPC and SARS,
- A clear criminal and credit record.

How does B-BBEE influence my application?
The Gambling Board will consider the promotion of Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment, in particular of local previously disadvantaged individuals, including women and designated groups in the LPM market vital to any application.
What documents are needed for the application?
These are some of the documents needed in order to compile the application:
- Site Location Plan; including physical address
- Scaled Floor Plan
- Project Model and Plans (interior and exterior of site)
- Financial Statements
- Copies of liquor and other relevant licenses
- Tax Clearance Certificate
- Land and Zoning Rights
- Property Ownership and/or Lease Agreement
- Shareholders Agreement and Shareholding structure
- Third Party Agreements (if applicable)
Please note that these are the documents required for an existing company, we can also register a new company for you if needed.
Can I apply for more than one license?
If you have a type A license, you can apply for up to 10 licenses.
How does the application process work?
At the beginning of the process, we will request information from you such as company documents and some personal information as well. We then use this information to compile the files and once finalized, we submit to the relevant Gambling Board.
How long does the application process take?
If we receive all the documents requested as soon as possible, we can compile the file and within a week, the file will be ready for submission.
How do I become B-BBEE compliant?
We can ensure that you will be B-BBEE compliant with the assistance of our Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Specialist, Johnny Eliades. From issuing a new B-BBEE certificate for you to planning a transformation strategy, whether short-term or long-term, we got it all covered!
How much does it cost to apply for a license?
According to regulations, the Route Operator should apply on your behalf, should you wish to apply for a Type A or B license.
